Well done Finn Meijer, Nick Meijer and Jess Lowe for making the trip to South Australia last weekend to compete in their 420's at Youth Sail SA (which was run by Australian Sailing). Congratulations to Finn Meijer and his skipper Oscar (from Metung) who placed 3rd in very light conditions, only 1 point behind 2nd place. The experience of attending an interstate regatta is all worth it when you bring home a medal, so well-done Finn, Nick and Jess. Photos below.

Keelboats
What do you report when there’s not much to say. I thought the Skippers and Crew meeting went well. At least no-one complained to me afterwards. I managed to get the computers sorted thanks to a lot of help. I hope showing what the Tower sees on SailSys was helpful.

Many thanks to Matt Fahey for coming down from Royal Yacht Club of Victoria to talk about the Lipton Cup. I know of four boats so far contemplating the trip to the port. He particularly noted that berths would be available for us and that the Friday twilight would NOT be counted in series points. So anyone who can only make it for the Saturday start time need not worry about missing the Twilight.

Visit https://www.liptoncup.com.au/ for regatta entry and the Notice of Race.

A decision was made by a show of hands from the floor – from the 2026/2027 Season the Keelboat Club Championship will be sailed under PHS and ORCc handicaps. Matt convinced us that the life of the AMS system is not guaranteed. The right-hand side of the current Keelboat Champion honour board will be used to record the ORCc champion while the left-hand side continues to record the performance handicap champions. The challenge is to win both.

have asked Ninjo’s crew for ideas for their theme for the Opening Day Sailpast. I’ll see what they come up with. Not too late. A week and a half to go. We took the mainsail and boom off poor old Ninjo today. She looks a bit sad but we promised her to return it checked and primed in time. Replaced two bearings in her starboard primary winch as well. We are checking through her Cat5 requirements so we can chuck unnecessary stuff off the boat. Yachts, like some people, have a habit of accumulating junk.

We need a volunteer from keelboat family and friends to join the social and intellectual Tower community. We also need to recruit someone to take over the work of keelboat management that Jann Wilson diligently performed behind the scenes. Di Jackson had handed this work over to Jann and doesn’t want it back (although she is helping with it until a replacement is found). We all know about the value to our sailing enjoyment provided by the Tower volunteers, but without the unsung heroes of the keelboat systems management we wouldn’t have a keelboat fleet. For example, who answers your emails? Just one recent item - Di has liaised with Ports Victoria to ensure we have permission to race on their waters. This permission, with its documents, has to be obtained for each series, not just the program as a whole. The first two series are done but I believe there are more to do.

THIS REPLACEMENT IS DESPERATELY NEEDED!

See you on Sunday at the Working Bee. 9am - 12. with a sausage sizzle on completion

That’s all folks, although I must have forgotten something.

Working Bee

The Annual Working Bee will be held on Sunday, 5th October 9am - 12.00pm. As always, there are plenty of jobs to get through, with teams of members needed both at the club and in the boat shed at the ramp.
A full list of tasks will be shared in the week leading up to the day, so everyone can come prepared with the right equipment.
It’s an all-hands-on-deck effort, and we’ll finish up with a BBQ in the yard to thank all members who lend a hand.

BENDIGO NEW

For Sale

Rick Potter has been diligently preparing "El Toro" for sale. This Sabre was built by long time SBSC member Drew Mattingley, who recently passed away. Drew was very generous in donating both of the Sabres to the club to help pay for our Junior Sailing Program. This boat still has a lot of adventures in it. It would be great if it stayed at the club.
