Junior Sailing at SBSC

emphasising skills, safety and most of all, fun

Junior Sailing Homepage

Fun, Safety, Fun

The SBSC Junior Program is open to all juniors between the ages of 5 – 17. We are able to accommodate kids with no prior sailing to experienced races. The program is run and organised with passion by our older experienced youth members and they work to create an atmosphere of encouragement, support and fun as well as a place to develop new friendships and become part of the club community.

In addition to our Junior programs, SBSC also runs Learn to Sail programs including Tackers courses (7 – 12) and Dinghy Courses (teenagers and adults), allowing the whole family to get into the fun and joy of sailing.

Our Junior program runs every Sunday morning during the sailing season. A typical morning is as follows:

  • 0900 – arrive, rig boats, get ready
  • 1000 – on the water activities
  • 1200 – finish sailing and pack up

We rotate around a 4-week cycle of different themed activities, allowing for a structured program but also making each week a little different. Each week is designed to focus on developing a particular skill or racing tactic of sailing.

BBQ Breakfasts

The BBQ coaching breakfasts are a huge hit, scheduled at the start of each month beginning earlier around 8:30am. This then leads into a quick tutorial session with activities on water to further develop the particular skill

Racing Series

The racing series allows the new skill from the week before to be used in a racing format.

Adventure Sailing

The adventure/fun sailing week gives the juniors a chance to just have fun on the water, and allows them to understand that sailing is more than just racing and regattas.

Team Racing

We encourage all formats of sailing and by exposing the juniors to teams racing as it develops team work and gives opportunity to sail in different boats to their own.

Junior Boats

We welcome all types of junior boat classes to join in our Sunday morning sailing. We have a variety of club boats for our juniors to use allowing for a wider range of experiences and opportunities.
