Rear Commodore's Report
Dear Members,
For those that weren’t able to get out on the water on Sunday…..you missed an incredible sail. A classic steady winter North Westerly at 12knts was just the ticket. A healthy fleet of 15 KB’s and 10 OTB’s in the middle of winter was pleasing to see. Thanks to the tower team and the Committee and rescue boat teams for setting fantastic courses. Sailing days like that are as rare as Taylor Swift tickets!
Congratulations to Paul Fleming and Craig Garmston for their win in the B14 European Titles on Lake Garda. A great warm up win for the World Titles which are now underway. A big Congratulations also to Mark Bulka for his results in Europe. Mark finished 3rd in the Contender Worlds, in a 115 boat fleet in Denmark. An incredible achievement.
Last Sunday, all gates, doors and lights were left on at the end of the day around the club. Please, if you are the last to leave the premises it is your responsibility to lock up as you leave. Please do not leave it to someone else. If not for the sharp vision of a member who lives up on the hill, the club may very well have been left open overnight!
Great to see our social media guru and e-News co-ordinator living it up on a well-deserved break in Switzerland and France. Fiona Lowe is catching up with our good friends, the Thompson Family, with son Zac. We look forward to hearing all about your travels Fiona on your return. Our esteemed Race Officer is also abroad at the moment in Oslo Norway, before heading to the UK on one of his famous walking tours. No doubt Geoff will fill us in via a report down the track. Even though he’s away on holidays, Geoff is still posting the results from the weekend’s sailing! Thanks Geoff, you’re a trooper!
The next Brass monkey winter series races are on the 30th of July. Immediately following racing is the AGM. Last year we struggled to make a quorum. Please don’t put us in that situation again, by turning up and (more importantly) putting your hand up to take the positions that require filling. Many hands make light work as the saying goes, and we really need more people to step up and lessen the load on those who are already giving up their time for your benefit. The AGM, in case you’ve been living under a rock, is on at the club on Sunday the 30th of July @ 2.30pm. See you there!

In the Euro Open Event, Paul Fleming and Craig Garmston (McCrae) took the overall win on countback, while Leigh Dunstan (teamed up with Paul Newman from McCrae) came 5th, and Ewan and Misha Campbell were 15th. Great effort from you all! The World Championship is currently underway. Click on this link for the latest articles in 'Yacht and Yachting'.
