Volunteers Needed

Thank you to the 3 members who have answered the call.....

We still have a few gaps that need filling within sub committees this season. These roles are all very crucial to the success of the club. Some of these roles have been vacant for more than a season and it is very difficult to run a community club without the help of our members. The club currently has approx. 500 members, please don't assume someone else will step up and volunteer. To all those who have volunteered in the past, we thank you. To anyone considering volunteering, we would love to chat to you. Below is a brief outline of the committees needing the most help, however if you feel that you could contribute in a different way, please let us know.

Please email our secretary Veronica on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you can help.

Risk Management & Child Safety Roles
As our club continues to grow and welcome new members, it's more important than ever to ensure we’re providing a safe, inclusive, and well-managed environment for everyone—especially our youngest sailors. These areas are not just best practice but are mandatory under Australian Sailing guidelines. We’re currently seeking passionate volunteers to take on two critical roles:

Risk Management Committee
Help us identify and manage risks across all club activities, ensuring we meet Australian Sailing safety standards and provide a safe space for all members.
  • Identify and assess risks across club activities (on-water and off-water).
  • Develop and maintain a Risk Register.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Sailing’s safety standards.
  • Coordinate regular safety audits and incident reviews.
  • Promote a culture of safety among members and volunteers.
  • Maintain a register of all members certifications (Marine Licences, Radio Operators Certificates, etc)

Child Safety Officer
Lead the implementation of Child Safe Standards, support our junior programs, and ensure we’re meeting all legal and ethical obligations around child protection.
Some of the tasks included in this role:
  • Ensure compliance with the Child Safe Standards and Working With Children Checks (WWCC).
  • Develop and implement a Child Safety Policy.
  • Provide training and resources for coaches, volunteers, and staff.
  • Establish clear reporting procedures for concerns or incidents.
If you have experience in safety, compliance, education, or just a passion for helping others, we’d love to hear from you!

House Committee
The Vice Commodore John Wemyss currently oversees this committee, but at present there is only 1 member (picked up from our callout) to assist. This means John is carrying the entire workload on his own. For a club with so many moving parts, this is far from ideal.
Several important projects require attention in the coming weeks and months, including:
  • Appointment of a new Yard Master (urgent)
  • Reconfiguration of the tower to improve efficiency of the space
  • Yard and building maintenance/repairs ahead of the working bee
  • Support with planning the installation of acoustic panelling in the dining room
Sponsorships & Marketing

The Commodore Tony Christmas currently oversees this committee, but at present there is only 1 member (picked up from our callout) to assist. This means that Tony is managing the sponsorship portfolio on his own. As a community club, it is vital that we attract and nurture sponsors who will benefit from a partnership with us. Just as importantly, sponsors need to be supported and recognised for their commitment to our club. If you are able to assist Tony in this important role, please get in touch.

Sail Peninsula 2026 Committee

This committee is already underway with planning for the 2026 Regatta. As one of the club’s biggest events, the regatta is a major undertaking and requires a significant amount of work behind the scenes. Many of the volunteers have been involved for several years, and while their experience is invaluable, new assistance is needed to avoid burnout and to bring fresh ideas that will ensure a smooth transition into the next regatta.

Social Committee
Whilst we have a wonderful bunch of members on this committee, assistance is needed to avoid burn out and bring in fresh ideas to the table.

Off The Beach News

Howdy Gang.
We are just over a month away from the start of the season. Wow, didn't that go quickly!

This season promises to be a ripper, with quite a few changes in the lineup. For starters, the Sharpie is gone!! After too many years to count, she has gone traveling to a new family in SA. That really is the end of an era, but not to worry, the boat may be gone but the sailors linger on with Di J jumping into Drew Mattingley's Sabre "Purple Patch", which he kindly bequeathed to the Club.

Also, another era coming to a close, Ross and Tash M will no longer be thrashing the other Tasars. With Tash and family moving to WA, Ross has jumped onto the Impulse bandwagon. Now is your chance Bill M for a shot at Club Champion. I reckon you have half a season at best before Ross really hits his straps in the new boat.

Junior training is looking good too, with three Pacers joining the fleet, mostly funded by generous donations from Club members (more on that later). While we have plenty of training boats and a fantastic group of people running the show on Sunday mornings, there is always, ALWAYS, a need for more volunteers to help out. Please put some thought into sharing your vast sailing experience with the next generation, it will be an effort repaid many times over.

Yard storage will be at the front of your minds in the coming weeks. Please remember that there is a priority to those who are sailing regularly, we are not your storage facility, so if you don't use it enough, you will be asked to take your boat home. If you haven't already submitted an application, please get one in asap. Yard Storage Application HERE

That's about it for now. So, with not long to go, I'm sure you've done all that winter maintenance (ha ha) and will have no excuse for not having ya bum in a boat for Opening day on the 12th of October.

See you then. Cheers, Pete Chippy

Working Bee

The Annual Working Bee will be held on Sunday, 5th October. As always, there are plenty of jobs to get through, with teams of members needed both at the club and in the boat shed at the ramp.
A full list of tasks will be shared in the week leading up to the day, so everyone can come prepared with the right equipment.
It’s an all-hands-on-deck effort, and we’ll finish up with a BBQ in the yard to thank all members who lend a hand.

Abbey Everett and Nick Meijer were spotted on the water Sunday 31st August in their 420, doing a bit of "Pre Season training".
Well done guys, we hope you've inspired a few others to get on the water now that we are through the cold of winter.
