EC Happenings

We are re-establishing these regular snapshots from the Executive Committee (EC) with happenings around the club. With 8 EC meetings each year it is planned to send these out after every 2nd meeting.

AGM 2025 – Sunday 27 July

The EC has started on the preparations to meet the various legislated deadlines. You will see more information about these over coming weeks. This will include seeking nominees for various roles and sub-committees.

Sail Training

Junior sail training has been a huge success this summer and thanks to everyone involved. The EC is now actively looking to buy 3 Pacers to grow this activity, with the potential to expand into coaching of school sailing teams.

Race Tower

With the Coast Guard no longer using of the tower, we are working on plans to re-configuring this space to better suit our needs, especially during race starts and finishes.

Dining room acoustics

Acoustic ceiling panels should hopefully be installed for next summer. Acoustic testing has been completed and the panel type and layout finalised, but there now remains significant compliance and contract paperwork that needs to be done for the Shire.

Training room

A gallery of old memorabilia and a very inspirational photo wall of junior sailors from throughout the years has been created. Soon this space is planned to have an air conditioner and small fridge with tea & coffee making facilities.

NBN

The EC is transitioning our internet provider to the NBN. This will enhance and improve the robustness of our web services across the board, but it probably comes as no surprise that this is bureaucratically intense and is taking time.

Marina Berth changeover

The Club’s new marina berth, located off from the northern end of Dromana Pde, has proven very successful with its quick access from the Club to the RIBs. For the winter months it has been leased out. The settlement of our smaller Hidden Harbour berth is expected shortly; some lengthy issues with the Certificate of Title first had to be sorted.

Calling OTB Sailors

We realise some of you might be enjoying the winter break, but if any OTB members want a sailing fix (keeping your shoes semi-dry!) please send your name and phone number to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will aim to get you on a keelboat (alternate Sundays and Fridays).  Check out the Winter program here.

Keelboat News

Congratulations to ‌those who were among the awards at the End of Year Celebrations on Saturday night.  If you weren't, I'm sure you still enjoyed the night catching up with friends and celebrating our great club.  Special congratulations to our 2024-25 Keelboat Club Champions - skippers Cameron Barwick and Graeme Sergeant of 'Rawhide'.  And also to our new Club Persons of the Year - Amanda Malin and Elaine Nicholas - our dedicated and reliable tower girls who make it possible for us all to race.  Remember the rules for 'CPOTYs' - if you see them in the club and their glass is empty - buy them a drink!

The Winter Series' are well underway with good size fleets.  It's not too late to enter through Sailsys.  If you're keen to enter but maybe short on crew, please reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  We are hoping to recruit a few OTB sailors who aren't racing over winter.  They have great skills that can/should be utilised, and it's a great way to meet other SBSC members.

If you're interested in keeping an eye on the SBSCE race results over winter, follow this link RESULTS.  We have a small fleet of MYC boats joining in the pursuit racing, competing in their own sub-series.  You can view the individual sub-series in the results.

Other racing news of late; Vamonos and Rawhide competed in the ORCV double-handed bay race on 18 May.  Looking at the results there was the usual good healthy competition between the two of them!  Shimmer had great success in the recent ORCV 2025 Apollo Bay Race, placing (Div 1) 2nd AMS, 3rd ORC and PHS.  Check out the recent ORCV Results here.  For those interested, ORCV have a great winter race program (see below).

And finally, Rob Rainsford and delivery crew on YKnot headed off early Sunday morning for their journey up the east coast.  Have a safe journey and enjoy the warmer weather as you progress north.

2025 DYSC Marine Supplies Winter Series & Novice Return Series

The ORCV DYSC Marine Supplies Winter Series program for racing and cruising is based on passage style racing within Port Phillip Bay.  The Series comprises four races including a destination race to Blairgowrie, a destination race to Geelong and two short passage races around fixed marks.

  • Race 1 - Saturday 21 June 2025 – Short Passage Race (< 6 hours)
  • Race 2 - Saturday 5 July 2025 – Destination Race to Geelong
  • Race 3 - Saturday 19 July 2025 – Short Passage Race (< 6 hours)
  • Race 4 - Saturday 16 August 2025 – Destination Race to Blairgowrie
  • Resail day - Saturday 2 August 2025 - if required

In addition to the DYSC Marine Supplies Winter Series, return races are scheduled to provide the opportunity for crew and team development on:

  • Sunday 6 July 2025 – Novice Return Race from Geelong
  • Sunday 17 August 2025 – Novice Return Race from Blairgowrie

As with all ORCV races, you can compete fully crewed, 4+Autohelm and Double Handed.  The races start in the vicinity of Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC).  Shorter course options have been included in all races to cater for the range of conditions which may be experienced during the winter months.

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron (BYS) and Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) are generously providing their traditional overnight hospitality and camaraderie for the destination races.

The ORCV on-water distress flare drill will continue this year prior to the first race in the series on Saturday 21 June 2025.  Details will be provided via a Notice to Competitors.
