Inaugural Fun Friday Race

The Winter Fun Friday Series (WFFS) kicks off this Friday 26 May at 1400.
To recap, this is a pilot series for 2023 winter, with the emphasis on fun racing but with reduced volunteer input (considering the working week timing) compared to our other racing.
To this end, there will be 1 person (minimum) in tower.  The RO could be on-water competing, or in-tower.
  1. Friday pursuit start times are now on website under ‘2023 Winter Season’ or click here (noting start times will be different from Sunday BWMS start times).
  2. Courses will be selected from the Friday twilight category.
  3. Sign-on / POB by radio Ch 69.
  4. No start light sequence - Skippers ‘self-start’ using AEST time on phones, etc.
A ‘Change to Sailing Instructions’ regarding the Winter Fun Friday Series is on the website under Keelboat Documents.
Courses, RO for the day, and any other relevant information such as weather cancellations will be emailed to all skippers on Friday morning before 11am.  If the forecast wind is above 20knts we will probably cancel.
Enjoy the sailing!

Annual MOB Practice Declaration

As explained at the recent Skipper and Crew meeting, the submission of an annual MOB Practice Form will be mandatory for the 2023-2024 season.  More details will be available in the NOR once it is released closer to the start of next season, however the new MOB Practice Form is available on the club website: https://sbsc.net.au/index.php/on-water/keelboats/keelboat-documents/331-mob-annual-training-declaration/file.

The annual on-water MOB practice can be undertaken at any time with your crew, noting that the form will need to be submitted at the same time as the other annual paperwork (Cat 5 Audit and Insurance) – by 31 October 2023.  There is plenty of information on MOB procedures available on the website under Safety Documents and Procedures

Vale Peter Merritt

Last week the Club received this very sad news from McCrae Yacht Club.  Peter was the man behind Sailor App and was well known to many in the Club, especially with the OTB guys, and more recently working with us in developing the keelboat race management module.  He was a great guy and will be sadly missed.
McCrae Yacht Club is sad to announce the sudden and tragic death of Peter Merritt. Peter has been a life-long supporter of the club and the sailing fraternity. His loss will be felt by many.
The club acknowledges Peter’s contribution as a former Commodore, Club Captain and life member.
Peter was also a valued member of the Race Officials Committee of Victoria, Director of Events for ILCA Oceania and life member of ILCA Victoria (formerly VLA).
The club is offering all support possible to Peter’s family and we pass on the condolences of a grateful membership to wife Jenny, sons Simon and Tim and mother Byrl.
A private funeral service will be held for immediate family who request privacy at this time.
If you have any inquiries, please contact Commodore Bronwyn Evans on 0408 558 890.
If this has caused concerns for you or a loved one, please contact Lifeline on 131114 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636. Support is also available from Australian Sailing here: https://mysca.sportschaplaincy.com.au/Home/Default.aspx
