Winter Fun Friday Series (Race 3)
Thank you Elaine Nicholas, Race Officer, and Andrew Arblaster in the tower. The next Friday afternoon pursuit race is scheduled for Friday 7 July, 2.00pm. Further details and start-sheet will be published next week.
Race Report (by Andrew Arblaster)
After a cold and rainy Friday morning, the clouds cleared and the sun came out for the start of the Winter Fun Friday race. With a Northerly wind of 15-18 knots forecast to drop to 10 -15 knots, Course 2 was selected to give the boats a beat to R1.
Three boats and 14 crew signed on, enjoying the consistent winds and flat water. Yknot won the start of the day – 10 seconds after their nominated start time. Shimmer was second on 15 seconds, and Marrakesh on 16 seconds. All boats hit the start line at full speed.
Shimmer took the scenic course to R1 looking for a lift on the cliffs and was successful in gaining on the other two boats. The rest of the course was reaching and did not offer any opportunities for passing lanes.
Marrakesh crossed the finish line first with an elapsed time of 1 hour and 15 minutes, ahead of the fast finishing
Yknot who reduced their 4 minute handicap to 2 minutes, and
Shimmer who had reduced the margin by 12 minutes from a handicap of 17 minutes.

Navionics & Fundamentals of Navigation, 2 courses. Navigation has changed a lot in the past few years. You no longer need specialised skills. While tacticians have significance, the capacity for all crew members to navigate proficiently has become more attainable than ever before by software on their smartphones and GPS devices. This shift holds immense potential in bolstering safety on board, as every crew member can actively participate or should know how to navigate, thereby reducing the hazards associated with erroneous navigation.
There are 2 navigation online courses on offer:
- July 10th – Navionics Basics
- July 13 & 17th – Fundamentals of Navigation Learn more click HERE
