4 Minutes of Confusion

There seems to have been some confusion over the weekend as to when a 4 minute adjustment applies?

The 4 minute adjustment ONLY applies to the Pursuit Races with Spinnaker Option format such as the Brass Monkey Winter Series and some of our Summer Sunday and Friday Pursuit Race as specified in the SBSC Keelboat Program.
In these races if you would like to run a spinnaker then you are required to notify the SBSC Tower of your intentions when signing on for the race.  If you have elected to run a spinnaker then 4 minutes is added to your starting time i.e. if the start sheets has you starting at 10minutes and you have chosen to run the kite then your new start time will be 14minutes.

There is no 4 minute adjustment for Combined Start Races.

Hoping that this helps to sort out any confusion.

KB Captains Report

The Summer Season is just around the corner with our first race on Friday 11th October and the clubs Opening Day on Sunday 13th October so please get all your documentation in.

I urge Skippers & Crews to attend the meeting on Sunday the 20th October @ 10:00am as we are going to have several very informative presentations.  The mysteries of the PHD handicapping system will be explained by our Commodore, Peter Bulka.  We will also have Rod Smallman and Tony Christmane going through Man Overboard procedures including an introduction to Leo the MOB dummy.  .

Hope to see you all out on the water for the First Twilight Race of the season.

Cheers Mal

ORCV Coastal Sprint Series

So, now that you’re all trained up or thinking about why not try a bit of ocean racing and the new coastal series will be just the thing to do.
The series consists of 4 coastal races designed to have you back in the pen within 24 hours or so and seeing as they are starting near Port Phillip Heads
and finishing of the Peninsula back beaches, we at SBSC are one of the better placed clubs geographically.

21019 ORCV 451x640

Each ORCV Coastal Sprint race is classified Category 3, avoiding the substantial equipment upgrade costs required for Category 2 races.
There is no requirement for HF Radio, Satellite phone storm sails or Life Rafts (those under 12m). The ORCV Coastal Sprints are perfect training platform when combined with Melbourne to Stanley prior to the Christmas Ocean races of ORCV Melbourne to Hobart or Rolex Sydney to Hobart.
