Man Overboard Training

MOB Training Session No.2
Another 56 skippers and crew attended the man overboard training at the club on Saturday. Thanks again to the ORCV's Simon Dryden and Matt Fahey for their time in presenting this invaluable safety and rescue material. The knowledge gained by those who attended will no doubt assist them in preparing their boat and crew for such an event and taking the next step of an on-water drill.

Challenge Walk

Firstly, I want to thank the entire Safety Beach Sailing Club Community for your incredible support of my “Walk 4 Challenge”. Through your generosity, I was able to raise just shy of $45,000. These vital funds will assist Challenge to continue to provide their camps and programs for families that have a child going through a cancer journey. I am happy to report that I was able to make it to Sydney on the 16th day as scheduled and walk through the doors of the Sydney David Jones store.
From a massive blood blister to surprise visitors, from incredible roadside donations to spectacular scenery, my walk had it all. It was always going to be a challenge of the body and mind and it turned out to be exactly that! I was always confident that my legs and mind would hold up, but I was always wary that my feet might be my undoing and they nearly turned out to be just that. For those that didn’t follow my journey on Facebook, blisters nearly derailed my efforts on day 9 and 13. Thankfully though, I had an amazing team that were able to keep me focused on why I was doing my walk and were also handy in dispensing some pain medication to ensure we made it to the finish line. It was difficult to gain media traction when you had a guy running 4000km from Perth to Sydney in 40 days and a well-known AFL Celebrity who was running from Adelaide to Melbourne to raise money for a very similar charity to my own. We were hoping that media traction would elevate our donation goals. I’ve been asked the question many times since returning, would I do it again? The answer is no, but my aim is to make this an annual event and mentor whomever chooses to take the baton.
It is not too late to donate to this great cause, so please dig deep and DONATE HERE
