SBSC Mini Art Trail
Last Saturday morning several SBSC members and their guests set out in the fog for the Mini Art Trail. The sun came out as we arrived at our first venue in Red Hill - the studio of painter and print maker Jennifer Buntine. Jennifer shared the various methods she used and showed us over her interesting workspace - a converted dairy.
The second artist was Liz Walker - a sculptor, installation artist and painter. Liz utilises all sorts of items as part of her work; plastics and rubbish collected from the beach, recycled metal, suitcases and even wishbones from chickens!
After a tasty lunch at the Green Olive in Red Hill the group headed to McCrae to the quirky studio of Garry Goodridge. His wooden and metal sculptures and paintings spread out to include the back yard.
The final visit was to Jane Suffield who dyes various fabrics in natural dyes such as indigo. Jane had set up a demonstration of her process and one of our group was encouraged to try her hand at dyeing. The results were very satisfying even in such a short time.
We wish to thank all the artists for opening their work spaces and sharing their creative process. It was very inspiring to view their works and we are very lucky to have such talent a short drive away.
For further information about the artists see the Peninsula Studio Trail website. The next big open weekend is 19th - 20th and 26th - 27th November. Thank you to Sallylou Hamilton for arranging our own mini art trail.
The SBSC Social Committee look forward to seeing you at the club soon. Keep up to date with all events, social or sailing, through the weekly e-news.

Keelboat - Spring Series 2022
In the cooler months we normally hold a Spring Series to fill the gap between Winter and Summer but this year it has been decided as a bit of a trial to give everyone a short break from racing to drum up some enthusiasm for the Summer Season ahead as well as give everyone some time to enjoy some other pastimes such as footie finals, gardening, boat maintenance etc. We look forward to seeing a big fleet out on the water for the start of the Summer Season.
Keelboat - Summer Program and Roster
Part 1 of the 2022-23 Keelboat Summer Program and Roster can be found on the club website or click HERE,. Make sure you read carefully and put all the dates in the calendar so that you don’t miss out on any of the fantastic racing we have in store for you this season. Please also check to see if your name comes up on the duty roster and put this in the diary too or if you are unable to attend then please let us know ASAP so that we can arrange a swap.
This week's Results:
What a pleasant way to finish off the winter season. Unfortunately we were lacking a bit of wind so no boats were able to complete the course in the time limit however, I think everyone enjoyed a lovely warm and calm sail on the bay.
Congratulations to Clarky and the 2Xtreme team for taking out this year's winter series - they were closely followed by Marrakesh and Vincitore in 2nd and 3rd respectively. All the results including the series scores can be viewed HERE.
HIRW Wrap Up
Congratulations to everyone that headed up north to compete and represent SBSC at this year's Hamilton Island Race Week. Special mention to Rick Rogers, David Stoopman and the crew from Maximum Limit who took the honours in their division. Sure all the crews enjoyed some much deserved celebrations. HIRW 2022 Results
