OTB Report

Hi folks, not much joy in our last sailing effort - was that really two weeks ago?? Anyway, this week is bound to be better- really, what could possibly go wrong?
For your sailing pleasure and safety, we will be chaperoned by the always vigilant Geoff and Deirdre on the start boat as well as Greg “Zimmerframe”Lowe and James “The Country Vet” Everitt (the things he can do with a dog would make your eyes water!).
Also this week we will be trialing the new "Sailor App" for signing on and off. You may have already used this app at recent regattas and will know how user friendly it is.
Deirdre and Geoff have posted a very easy to follow set of instructions above in the e-news, so please download the app and have a crack at it this week. If you don’t have a smart phone or don’t get around to it, the regular sign on sheet will still be there. Soon the club is purchasing another tablet to be mounted to the wall at the sign in desk so it will be even easier.
So rock up this week - don’t look at the weather report- or just bring a submarine, I hear there’s one going cheap over at WesternPort! And don’t forget to put in your nominations for Club Person and Junior Club Person of the year and book your seat/table for Presentation day.
That’s all for now
Cheers
Pete Chippy

SBSC Women's Sailing Update

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Friday night Women's Sailing Catch Up.  We had excellent interest from a range of sailing backgrounds (from zero to hero!), across the full age spectrum, and we discussed all sorts of training options. I also had some lovely messages and phone calls from members that couldn't attend expressing their support. And that's why we have so many women and girls loving their sailing at SBSC - there is fantastic support and a highly positive vibe.

The highlight of the night was when Fiona Lowe volunteered to be the next SBSC Women's Rep. Fiona will be the Australian Sailing "She Sails" rep and be the point of contact within the club. Fiona is very well connected within the club and the local sailing community and has a very confident, positive attitude.

Winter Series Race #2 Report

“Sportsboat screamer as Cool sets the pace”

The second race of the ORCV Winter Series saw 45 for the passage down to Blairgowrie, with the fleet drag racing down the bay in record-breaking time. The 25nm run down to the south channel saw some extremely close racing between yachts, with the sportsboats and mid-fleet tussle taking center stage as the fleet powered along on a wet and cool ride under spinnaker for much of the race.

Multiple crews commented on how great it was to regroup at Blairgowrie and chat after the race – thank you to the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron for their hospitality. Congratulations to all competitors who took part; to enter the next ORCV event on the 31st of July, please find more information here: https://www.orcv.org.au/winter-series
